“Would you come back?”
“I never go back.”
Bukowski paused a beat and repeated his question.
“What will you do?”
“I don’t know. Guess I’ll see where the road takes me.”
“Well then. Good luck to you. I’d better go. We got a lot of cleaning up to do. A lot of paperwork. More investigations.”
“Call up the Chicago office. Tell them to look for a guy named Serafi.”
“Who’s that?”
“Tell them to look through his life. And make sure they know that Alaska Rower found him. Make sure she gets the credit. Got it?”
“How will they find him?”
Widow heard sirens in the distance.
“Tell them. Okay. They’ll find him.”
He clicked off the phone—no goodbye.
Widow tossed the phone out the window and drove to the end of the alley. He stopped at a street that went in two directions. He looked left and looked right. He thought about which way to go.
